Initiatives

Together, 1,000 Houses in 1,000 Days, the U.S. EPA’s Community Energy Challenge, GreenerGov CT initiative, and the City of Hartford’s Office of Sustainability demonstrate how data‑driven design, collaboration, and practical implementation can deliver measurable environmental and economic benefits.

I led each of these challenging initiatives with talented, high-performing teams of up to 30 people, plus fellows from Code for America, AmeriCorps VISTA, and Harvard. Along the way, I’ve also worked with students, staff and faculty from across the country, including from Berkeley, MIT, Trinity, UConn, Wesleyan, Yale, and more.

Plans

Hartford’s Climate Action Plan sets the overarching strategy for reducing emissions and preparing for climate impacts through community‑driven priorities. The Energy Improvement District Plan translates that vision into practical steps to improve building performance, expand clean energy, and lower energy burdens for residents and institutions.

The Tree Canopy Action Plan focuses on restoring and expanding urban forests to improve air quality, reduce heat, and strengthen neighborhood well-being. These plans were the result of extensive leadership by local champions, persistent community engagement, and consensus-based planning processes.

My role varied across plans - from drafting to consensus - built implementation. Across the board, our team consistently worked with talented colleagues, volunteers, and consultants to produce high-quality, actionable documents. At the CT Department of Energy and the Environment, I led a team tasked with reviewing the utility’s Conservation and Load Management Plan, which outlined a $700M energy efficiency and demand response program.

Speaking, Outreach & Media

In each of my roles, I’ve had to regularly present, represent the agency and speak on behalf of the organization, leadership and team.

Data

Hartford and the State of Connecticut use complementary data platforms to monitor progress on climate and energy goals. The City of Hartford’s Environmental Insights Explorer dashboard - developed through a partnership among the Office of Sustainability, Google’s Geo for Good team, and People’s Action for Clean Energy - provides modeled estimates of building and transportation emissions, rooftop solar potential, and urban tree canopy using geospatial analysis and mobility‑based data.

At the state level, Connecticut’s GreenerGov CT dashboard - created jointly by the Office of Policy and Management, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the Department of Administrative Services - integrates utility, cost, and emissions data from executive branch agencies to track performance against statewide “Lead by Example” sustainability targets.
